Hyrum sits near the south end of Cache Valley, bordered on the southwest by Hyrum Reservoir and Hyrum State Park, with Blacksmith Fork Canyon to the east. Founded in 1860, it grew from about 7,600 residents in 2010 to about 9,400 in 2020. The city runs its own electric utility, partly supplied by a city hydroelectric plant in Blacksmith Fork Canyon, and Elite Hall has one of Utah's few remaining spring-loaded dance floors.
